To whom it may concern,
I am writing this letter to attest to Fiona Williams’ professional excellence.
I am the Managing Editor of the Labor & Employment Law Review, a publication of the State Bar of California that is mailed every other month to over 6000 attorneys who specialize in labor and employment law. Documation is the company that has been handling the layout, printing, and distribution of the Law Review for years, and Fiona was the designer at Documation who was assigned to our account. I had the pleasure of working with her for more than two years, so I am writing this not only as a fellow professional who appreciates her abilities and work ethic, but also as a really satisfied client of her business.
Lawyers on the whole are a pretty nitpicky bunch, and our publication had 3 of them reviewing every issue not only for content, but for such things as font style and size, line spacing, photo cropping, misplaced commas and periods, etc. I would not have traded places with Fiona for anything! She had 3 perfectionists going over her work with a fine-tooth comb every issue. . . I’m sure we would have driven lesser persons crazy! But she was unfailingly cheerful, creative in solving our problems, and professional in every respect. She was especially impressive in designing ads for us. We’d give her very general guidelines, such as “give us a half-or-full-page box (you decide, depending on layout), with some kind of border, maybe a picture, and this information.” We would always be impressed with her solution. And we’d say, can you move it to page 9 instead, and reduce it to fill the space below the footnotes? “No problem,” she’d say.
It has been a few months since we last worked with Fiona, and perhaps no better testimony to her abilities is the fact that we still talk about her! I realize this is an unusual thing to do in a letter of recommendation, but here is an email I received from one of my co-editors just last week:

I really miss Fiona! I just took a quick look, and the further in I went, the worse the layout got! I should have time to review tomorrow, and when I do I’ll pay particular attention to layout and note where changes are necessary.

I second Annmarie’s emotion! It was nothing but a pleasure collaborating with Fiona. She is a smart, creative, patient, personable, and fun individual, who I’m sure could do well, whatever she set her mind to.
Please feel free to contact me directly if you wish to discuss any of the above further.
Sincerely,
David Peyerwold
